Alf Quennell and the Australian War Memorial

After sending excerpts of his military record and the only other photo of him I know of (as a young boy), I received the following email from the AWM today with the pleasing news of their recognition of Alf Quennell in this photo.

Corporal Alf Quennell (middle row, second left) at Fovant, England, 1917

Dear Peter

Thank you for sending the scan of another photograph of Alf Quennell. We usually only accept photographs from the era of conflict as comparative portraits, not photographs of the soldier as a child or older man. However in the case of “Cpl Quinnel”, Alfred Quennell’s service record indicates he was a Corporal at Fovant in November 1917 and the photograph of him as a child does show comparable features. So we will amend the caption to identify him as 2nd row, 2nd from left. It will be a few days before the amended caption is uploaded to the website.

Thank you for your assistance.

Regards, Lenore
